Drawer Boy
January 19 – February 25, 2012
by Michael Healey
Directed by Julie Ritchey*
Join Filament Theatre Ensemble and The Den Theatre Ensemble for The Drawer Boy, the award winning play by Michael Healey inspired by the Theatre Passe Muraille’s landmark production of The Farm Show. The Drawer Boy examines the lives of two WWII veterns whose lives are turned upside down when a young actor visits their farm to gather reasearch for a play. What starts off quite innocently, and at times even humorous, unfolds into a powerful journey as the two older men rebuild the story of their lives, the truth of which had long been left unspoken.
“Sheer magic… a moving tribute to art’s healing power… the crowd stormed to its feet, cheering with enthusiasm usually found only at rock concerts.” -John Bemrose, Maclean’s
“Healey’s created a magnificent work, rich in compassion and universal in scope. Shows every sign of becoming a Canadian classic.” -Glenn Sumi, NOW
